The past couple of days have been interesting, a real fun week in royal events.
First, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been meeting and greeting Swedes during the first leg of their Scandinavian tour. While in Stockholm to visit the Swedish royal family, both Duke and Duchess participated in some ice hockey – not to worry, it was just to score a goal while standing on a sturdy carpet. No real ice activity for the pregnant Duchess!
Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, hosted the Cambridges at their Haga Palace residence. William and Kate got to meet Victoria and Daniel’s children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, who are of similar age to Prince George and Princess Charlotte, respectively. Perhaps the next visit can include all four children, which would be lovely to see. The next generation of royals growing up knowing each other well would serve as great ties to Europe and Scandinavia.
On their second day in Sweden, my true love gave to me…. just kidding. The Duke and Duchess joined Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel as they participated in a visit focusing on mental health, Duchess Kate’s interest and priority back in the UK. They also made a quick trip to a local department store to cut a ribbon on a UK design exhibition, part of their tour north to promote the UK during and after Brexit.
The men looked dapper, and Victoria looked polished. I still wish she’d wear her hair a bit looser, as it frames her face so beautifully. Kate, too, looked great, though the white and red houndstooth print was so Diana I couldn’t believe it. I admit she did it better than Diana, whose houndstooth was black and white on top of red and white – and the jacket had the black woven into the red. Yikes. So much pattern happening. If anything, Kate pulled off this busy pattern successfully much like Queen Maxima and Queen Mathilde, who also favor the look.
Kate’s mustard yellow dress with the floral pattern was a lot to look at, too. Though I have to say while it is a good color for her, the color and cut together with that pattern was a bit too much to take in. One of those elements, not all three!
Stay tuned for more.
