Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia will make State Visit to UK

Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia are headed to the UK for a State Visit. It has been in the making for a while: the trip was announced in December 2015 and scheduled for the following March. It was then postponed due to Spain’s political turmoil happening at that time. They tried again for June 6-8 of this year, but that was canceled due to the UK’s own general election.

Happily, it’s back on for July 12-14th (i.e. next week). There will be a State banquet where, I’m sure, the glamour-factor will be through the roof. Might I add that it will be excellent to see Prince Harry escorting Felipe and Letizia to Westminster Abbey, where the king will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.

There will most likely be discussion between the king and Queen Elizabeth II over Gibraltar, an area of contention between Britain and Spain. The political issue caused Queen Sofia, Felipe’s mother, to back out of Diamond Jubilee celebrations for Elizabeth II.

NOTE: Queen Victoria is the mutual connection between the Windsors and Spain’s Borbon dynasty. Queen Victoria is Felipe’s great-great-great-grandmother and Harry’s great-great-great-great-grandmother.

Prince Harry is back in Lesotho, the center of his charity Sentebale.

The prince has been actively involved with the children of this small land-locked African nation since a 2006 gap year visit. When he saw the amount of children suffering from the troubling plight of AIDS, he joined together with Prince Seeiso, younger brother of Lesotho’s king, to create Sentebale.

Both princes established Sentebale in honor of their late mothers, Queen Mamohato of Lesotho and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Sentebale has been vital for Lesotho, providing education to children and support to terminally ill children infected with HIV/AIDS.

Now, after his tour of Afghanistan, Prince Harry has jumped back into working with Sentebale and has charmed everyone during his three-day visit to Lesotho. He toured all of the projects that Sentebale supports and stated that he hopes he has made his mother proud of him.

Harry danced with children, visited classrooms to the delight of the students, and even tried his hand at making cakes.

Happy birthday, Letizia & Harry!

Princess Leti

Princess Letizia

HRH The Princess of Asturias was born Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano on September 15, 1972.

The lovely Letizia followed in the footsteps of her journalist father, Jesús Ortiz Álvarez. She became a prominent journalist and television news personality, broadcasting live from Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks in New York and covered the war in Iraq in 2003. For her work, Letizia was presented with the Larra Award of the Madrid Press Association for the most distinguished young journalist of the year.

Letizia is married to HRH Prince Felipe, The Prince of Asturias. They have two daughters, Infanta Leonor and Infanta Sofia.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry of Wales

HRH Prince Harry, also born on September 15th, came into the world in 1984. The 28-year-old prince is the second son of HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales and his former wife, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Harry, third in line to the British throne, is currently on a four-month combat tour in Afghanistan as a gunner on an Apache attack helicopter.

Together with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, Harry launched Sentebale: The Princes’ Fund for Lesotho, a charity to aid children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. He is also one of the founders of The Royal Foundation, of which he is patron along with his brother Prince William and sister-in-law, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince Harry

Long may he be reigned

Idle hands are the devil’s workshop, but thankfully Harry’s hands are full for now (no pun intended). The prince is doing his duty representing Queen and Country as an ambassador for Team GB in the Paralympics.

It’s reported that the prince will not attend the opening ceremony on Wednesday, nor is he slated to attend the closing. He is expected to return to training before possible deployment to Afghanistan.

With no window of time between Paralympic duties and military training, Harry will be out of trouble and will be doing something constructive again!

Royal Repercussions: What Happens Now?

Many people are disgusted with Prince Harry. Is this how a royal prince behaves?

On the flip side, a lot of people are cutting him some slack – he’s a young man, sowing his wild oats. Isn’t he fun?

Aside from public opinion on what’s appropriate behavior and what isn’t, let’s look at the fact of the matter – something could’ve gone horribly wrong.

Here we have a young lad who is completely fine with getting naked with strangers. Apparently, he has no qualms about ending up largely defenseless. He comes off looking like a ripe target for blackmail. Or worse, kidnapping. His friends were a part of all of this, too, but if they were just as drunk and silly, what good are they?

While this incident certainly does no favors for Harry in the discretion department, it certainly doesn’t make his bodyguards look too quick, either. I blame the prince for reckless behavior, but I also blame his security detail.

Harry is a prince, the grandson of a queen and son of a future king. Those they employ to protect them must know that there are legions of people ready to take advantage of them. I wonder how much that sneaky snapper was paid for their photos? How about the video? Who might possibly try to come forward with a little redheaded Harry, Jr. looking for money? Prince Albert of Monaco could give Harry a few tips on what not to do with random women!

What about someone looking to nab Harry as a ransom? Just because Harry is a strapping male doesn’t mean he’s completely safe. Drink and hormones can weaken a fun-lovin’ boy’s defenses to the point where anything could happen. This time it was just some sneaky photos. Harry could potentially end up creating another Profumo-style scandal if he’s this reckless. Better hope that the Cambridges put a lot of room between Harry and the throne at this rate.

It’s not security’s job to make moral judgements, their job is to keep their charge safe. I do think they failed on this one. They got lucky in that Harry is just embarrassed. Next time, the ending might not be quite so jolly, for him or the nation. Someone is going to have to draw a line somewhere, whether their boss likes it or not.

Discuss:

• Does Harry have the last word on his personal security?
• What if someone had brought a gun?
• People were after Harry for DNA to prove Charles’ paternity. I guess this isn’t an issue anymore?
• What changes will be made after this?

Haakon Could Teach Harry A Thing Or Two

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway could teach Prince Harry a thing or two about dignity.

While the UK’s royal scamp is scandalizing his family, Haakon is out and about discussing Dignity Day. It is an initiative that was started in 2006 to “help youth and adults to become their best self and help others to achieve the same”.

The creators are Professor Pekka Himanen of Finland, John Hope Bryant (founder of Operation HOPE), and Haakon. The three got the idea while meeting at the World Economic Forum in 2006.

From the website:

The three friends realized that the one thing that everyone in the world could agree on, irrespective of their differences is: We all want our dignity to be recognized. Dignity is the very foundation of our humanity. Dignity is universal. Dignity is also the source of human rights.

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is showing Prince Harry how it’s done. Here he is presenting during the 2011 Dignity Day in Finland:

I realize that Haakon will be the king of Norway one day, while Harry is the “spare” to the British heir, Prince William. Harry is not expected to shoulder as much burden as a future king would, but it would be nice if he could have some… what’s the word? Oh yeah. Dignity.

Prince Harry Parties in Las Vegas

Prince Harry hit up my hometown for a party break at the famous Las Vegas MGM Grand hotel and casino.

The prince of the blood royal looked like any other reveler as he shared a laugh with his mates. Naturally, a gaggle of gorgeous dames was close at hand as the prince relaxed poolside.

Harry should enjoy his time while he has it. Prince Philip may need to reduce his royal duties, and as the Duke steps back, it’s up to Charles and Camilla to step up and help the Queen with the Cambridges and Harry hot on their heels.

Don’t keep One waiting, you lot.

[ED. If Clarence House would like me to be an adviser to Prince Harry, I think I can swing it. #1 on the agenda: NO nude photos. #2: Go home and stay there.]
